Nationwide Fire Protection Corp. Inspects Aurora Fire Alarms and Hood Systems after Tornado

Filed under: News — Tags: Aurora CO fire systems, Aurora fire alarms — Massoud Farazandeh @ 9:55 pm

Wednesday, June 10, 2009 —DENVER, COLORADO—Nationwide Fire Protection Corp. spent Monday morning repairing restaurant equipment damaged by a recent tornado that hit southeast Aurora.

On Tuesday, staff began checking on other customers to ensure their equipment remains operable.

The tornado hit the Southlands shopping center Sunday afternoon, causing it to close.  A spokeswoman for the mall said many stores will remain closed until repairs are made, according to ABC 7 News. She did not say how long that might be.

No Aurora fire systems maintained by Nationwide Fire Protection Corp. were damaged by the tornado, said Massoud Farazandeh, general manager of the company, which is an affiliate of American Professional Services (APS-Hoods). NFP also maintains a number of Aurora, CO fire alarms accounts, including several at restaurants in the Southlands.

One restaurant in the Southlands called to report that some of their kitchen hood system equipment had blown off the roof during the storm. NFP workers made those repairs on Monday morning. However, the restaurant was unable to reopen as scheduled that day, due to gas being cut off in that area as a result of the storm, Farazandeh said.

“It appears that our customers in the Southlands got very lucky,” he said. “We had just one call for service, but we are calling the rest of them this week just to check in on them and make sure everything is OK.”

Judging by the storm, it’s surprising there wasn’t more damage to restaurants in Southlands, Farazandeh said, adding that it was fortunate that there were no casualties; just property damage.

In times of severe weather, Nationwide Fire Protection Corp. has staff on call to assist customers whose  commercial hood systems, fire alarms and fire suppression equipment are damaged. They are prepared to respond immediately and make any repairs necessary to get the business back online quickly.

It is believed that Sunday’s tornado was on the ground for about 30 minutes, going on an 8- to 10-mile path across southeast Aurora, ABC 7 News reported. The storm also dropped golf ball-sized hail.
